The National Gallery of Modern Art<\/strong> (NGMA<\/strong>) is India\u2019s premier art institution for modern and contemporary Indian art. The museum was established in 1954 with the singular aim of promoting and preserving modern Indian art. Its vast collection chronicles the trajectory of art in India from mid-18th century to the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NGMA<\/strong> is spread over eight acres of prime space in the heart of New Delhi at the prestigious India Gate Hexagon. The collection is showcased in Jaipur House, the former palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The regal ambience of the heritage structure offers a befitting backdrop for the masterpieces on display while sprawling green lawns and courtyards offer a ready stage for a sculpture garden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo\u2019Ham<\/strong>\u201d Symbolism is \u201cUniversal Self (Paramahamsa) Reflected as Individual Self (Hamsa) in all of u<\/strong><\/em>s<\/em><\/strong>. So\u2019Ham thus means \u201cHe I (am) or I am He<\/em><\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The naming bears impressions of intense brainstorming sessions which went on for months as it was decided from the very first day that `The name should have Indian flavour as well as descriptive to its aim, which is \u2013 \u201cIndian name, rooted to its rich past<\/strong><\/em>\u201d, in order to bring bigger, wider and grass root participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this nomenclature there is an effort to include anyone with a sense of art under one common platform of \u2018Cultural Media for Art<\/strong><\/em>\u2019, where one is connected to many and vice versa. Everyone is equal and sharing a common platform expressing relationship with art, being related to art or simply observing art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
